Who We Are
Downend Flyers is a female-only grassroots football club based in Bristol, providing football opportunities for girls and women from U6 through to open-age women’s teams. We are proud to offer a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where players of all abilities can develop, belong, and enjoy the game.
Founded in 1992 to create opportunities for girls to play football locally, the club has grown year on year and now supports teams across mini football, youth football, and women’s football.

Our Approach
At Downend Flyers, player development and enjoyment go hand in hand. We believe football should be fun, challenging, and confidence-building at every stage of the journey.
Our coaching approach focuses on:
| Creating positive learning environments | Supporting technical, physical, and personal development |
| Encouraging teamwork, respect, and resilience | Helping players develop both on and off the pitch |
Whether a player is taking their first steps into football or competing at senior level, our aim is to support long-term participation and progression.
Our Community
Downend Flyers is powered by volunteers. From coaches and team managers to committee members and matchday helpers, our club exists because of the time and dedication of people who care deeply about creating opportunities for girls and women in football.
We work closely with parents, local leagues, and partner organisations to ensure our club remains welcoming, well-run, and sustainable as it continues to grow.
Pathways for Players
We provide a clear pathway through the club, supporting players as they move from mini football into youth football and on into women’s football. Our aim is to keep players playing, developing, and enjoying football for as long as possible.
